Post-doctoral Research Fellowship – Plant metabolomics (Norway)

Nofima is Europe’s largest institute for applied research on fisheries, aquaculture and food. The group has approximately 500 employees and an annual total turnover of about NOK 0.5 billion. Our major owner is the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs. The group’s main office is located in Tromsø, while the research divisions are located in six places: Ås, Stavanger, Bergen, Sunndalsøra, Averøy and Tromsø.

Nofima Mat is one of four business areas in Nofima AS and works with processing of food from sea and soil: food and health, raw materials quality and process optimisation, safe and long lasting food, consumer and sensory sciences, industrial gastronomy and innovation. Nofima Mat has approximately 210 employees in Ås (app. 180) and in Stavanger (app. 30).

Nofima Mat in Ås has a 2.5 years vacancy as a post-doc / project based research scientist on plant metabolomics with main emphasis on health related constituents (secondary plant metabolites) in fruits, berries and vegetables. We are looking for at motivated researcher for further development of our metabolomics platform and our expertise on analytical methods related to food and health.

The main tasks will be developing and standardising protocols for different applications of plant metabolomics (untargeted/targeted, fingerprinting, and profiling) on plant materials produced in other ongoing research projects. Analyses will mainly be based on LC-(qTOF)-MS. Focus areas will be surveying climate and processing effects on the contents in fruits, berries and vegetables. The research scientist will be part of an interdisciplinary team with expertise on the areas analytical chemistry, biochemistry, plant physiology, food technology and bioinformatics.
The candidate has a PhD degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry or plant science and work experience from relevant areas within analytical chemistry, particularly mass spectrometry, LC-MS and method development. Knowledge of (plant) metabolomics and bioinformatics is desirable.

We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic colleague who is searching for professional challenges and good opportunities for further development. We will emphasise personal initiative, good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently in a result-oriented way. Good knowledge of both written and oral English is a prerequisite.
