DES MOINES, Iowa —
It's fall in Iowa and that means apple orchards and pumpkin patches are open statewide. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey says he wants to encourage Iowans to visit local pumpkin and apple farms. Northey says many Iowa apple farmers have good crops despite challenging weather over the growing season. The state says apple farms also are reporting strong sales so far.
Northey says pumpkin growers also faced wet weather but are reporting plentiful crops. He also offers tips, like wearing comfortable clothing and shoes when picking and bringing sun lotion, hats and sunglasses..chicagotribune.com
